A carbohydrate-restricted diet improves blood sugar regulation— according to a 14-day British study led by Francesco Sartor. Adding a high-intensity interval training program (up to 10 sets of 4-minute high intensity exercise bouts at 90 percent effort, three times per week) improved aerobic capacity and preserved muscle mass during weight loss, but made no additional contributions to improved blood sugar regulation. The combination of diet and exercise contribute to a successful and healthy weight-loss program. (European Journal Applied Physiology, 110: 893-903, 2010)
